Alberta RCMP conducts multi-day enforcement operation in Rocky Mountain House area

Six people have been arrested as a result of a multi-day Alberta RCMP enforcement operation in the Rocky Mountain House area.
From Sept. 3 to 5, police targeted high-risk offenders, active warrants and prolific crime locations in Rocky Mountain House, Caroline, Clearwater County and the Sunchild and O’Chiese First Nations.
The Alberta RCMP Rural Organized Crime Team led the operation, in partnership with Rocky Mountain House RCMP, Central Alberta District Crime Reduction Unit, Rocky Mountain House Crime Reduction Unit and Alberta RCMP Police Dog Services.
As a result of the operation, Police located and seized two stolen vehicles, 19 grams of suspected methamphetamine, 9.5 grams of suspected crack cocaine, 8.5 grams of suspected cocaine, 1.9 grams of suspected fentanyl, five unknown pills and $540 in cash.
Six individuals were arrested on outstanding warrants involving 16 offences, including two robbery-related charges. Officers also laid four Controlled Drugs and Substances Act charges, six Criminal Code charges and four Provincial Act charges.
Highlights of the operation include:
— While conducting surveillance in an area known for increased criminal activity, police located a stolen vehicle and arrested three people. Several outstanding warrants were executed, new charges were laid in relation to possession of stolen property, and a stolen vehicle was recovered.
— Police located an individual wanted on multiple outstanding warrants; however, the individual allegedly fled from police into a nearby residence. A warrant was obtained to enter the residence — two individuals were arrested without incident. During this investigation, police also recovered a stolen vehicle from the property.
— While conducting proactive patrols, in a targeted enforcement area, officers observed a vehicle displaying a stolen licence plate parked outside a residence. Officers witnessed the vehicle leaving the property and a traffic stop was initiated. The passenger allegedly fled from the vehicle and was arrested following a short foot pursuit. The individual was wanted on outstanding robbery related warrants and was found to be in possession of controlled substances and $540 in Canadian Currency. The individual was arrested for the warrant and has been charged with drug trafficking-related offences.
On May 28, the Government of Alberta announced it was providing $8 million in additional funds to law enforcement in Alberta to combat organized crime. The Alberta RCMP received $2 million in additional funding which has supported the creation of the Alberta Rural Organized Crime Team.
