A recent drug bust was one of the biggest in the history of the Red Deer RCMP’s General Investigation Section (GIS).
In March 2026, police launched an investigation into drug trafficking in the Red Deer area. That investigation, which received support from RCMP detachments in Innisfail, Airdrie and Sundre, resulted in the identification of two suspects and numerous locations of interest.
On Sept. 10, the investigation culminated in the execution of a search warrant at seven different locations in Red Deer, Airdrie, Innisfail and a rural area north of Sundre. The locations included three residences, one business, two camper trailers and a motor-vehicle home.
Police seized more than six kilograms of cocaine, 1.4 kilograms of psilocybin, 600-plus grams of methamphetamine, an uzi-style firearm, three handguns, ammunition and more than $280,000 in cash. Other items consistent with drug trafficking were seized as well.
“For a city the size of Red Deer, this is a very significant seizure,” said Const. Andrew Devine with Red Deer GIS.
“This represents a real disruption of drug-trafficking activities in our neighbourhoods and really is a big dent in organized crime in our area. … This is certainly one of the largest seizures our unit has had.”
Two suspects have been arrested and charged.
A 37-year-old Airdrie man is charged with two counts of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking, possession of proceeds of crime over $5,000, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, tampering with a serial number of a firearm, and six other criminal charges related to the illegal possession of firearms.
A 43-year-old Red Deer man is charged with possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking and possession of proceeds of crime over $5,000.
Devine said it’s possible more suspects could be identified.
