Kootenay Central MLA Brittny Anderson, former Minister of State for Local Government and Rural Communities, has announced that she will once again run to represent this riding for the BC NDP.
She made her announcement on social media.
“Our BC NDP government has made historic investments in health care, affordable housing, and clean energy, strengthening supports for families and communities across the province.
“At this critical moment for our province and country, I will never stop fighting for my Kootenay community to continue building a stronger, more affordable future for everyone. For public health care. For our planet. For reconciliation. For people in our communities who most need us to show up. And for stable government that stands up against Trump, his tariffs and his politics.
“This election is about the future of our province, our communities, and the people who call them home. I’m proud to have grown up in the Kootenays. I’m proud to serve the community that raised me and I’m ready to keep doing the hard work that lies ahead.”
Anderson was elected MLA in 2020. She is a lifelong resident of the Kootenays, and was a city councillor in Nelson, as well as a board member for the Regional District of Central Kootenay.
Anderson kicked her campaign off with a launch party in Nelson on September 28, 2026.
The Conservative party of BC candidate has been announced as former RCMP officer Gordon Skulnec. At press time the Green Party had not announced a candidate.
