After four years, the Closer to Home Than You Think campaign for Kelowna General Hospital (KGH) Foundation has closed, surpassing its goal by over $5-million.

“What our community has accomplished through this campaign goes far beyond exceeding an ambitious fundraising goal,” said Allison Young, CEO of the KGH Foundation. “Thousands of people chose to invest in a shared vision for better health care here in the Interior, and the result is an impact that will be felt by hundreds of thousands of patients, families and health care professionals for years to come.”

Funds have supported initiatives like the Gynecologic Oncology Surgical Program, education and training, 3T MRI technology and robot-assisted surgery at KGH, improvements to emergency care, the launch of the Body Donor Program, and the opening of a new facility for learning and innovation.

Helping community-based initiatives outside of the hospital, campaign funds were also directed to opening a new Foundry location and an Integrated Health Outreach Team mobile clinic van.

“Our partnership with the KGH Foundation recognizes that health care is something that happens throughout our community, not just inside the hospital,” said Mike Gawliuk, CEO of CMHA Kelowna & District, the organization responsible for opening and operating Foundry Kelowna and Foundry Westside. “This kind of collaboration is incredibly important as we think about building a stronger and more connected system of care for the future.”

The campaign ultimately raised $45,432,601.
