Castlegar resident Stephen Hill is running for the OneBC Party, and brings a strong financial acumen and political history to the 2026 provincial election.
Hill is married with two grown children, and has lived in the West Kootenay for 33 years. He moved to Rossland in 1993 and called it home for 25 years before moving to Castlegar in 2018.
Together, they built a successful business in Greater Trail and expanded it across Western Canada.
But one of the main sticking points with Hill is that his son and daughter both left the West Kootenay to pursue their careers elsewhere. Hill hopes to change the odds for young people growing up in the area and increase opportunities.
Hill is no stranger to politics. He ran in the 2011 Federal Election for the Southern Interior riding and earned 19,273 votes or 38.9 percent of the ballots, coming in just behind NDP incumbent Alex Atamenko.
Hill was also a key supporter and board member of Columbia-Kootenay-Southern Rockies Conservative MP Rob Morrison and Helena Konanz, the Conservative MP for Similkameen-South Okanagan-West Kootenay.
“I opened Rob’s campaign office last election and helped flip every poll in Salmo, Fruitvale, Montrose and Trail,” said Hill.
“Active involvement in the Federal Conservative Party has helped turn our region ‘Blue’ in both Castlegar and Trail.”
He also founded the local Provincial Conservative Riding Association and the LeRoi Community Foundation, and was a founding member of the Trail Youth Justice Program.
Hill also sat on the boards of the Trail Hospice Society, Trail Rotary, Red Mountain Racers, Black Jack Ski Club, the Rossland United Church, Chamber of Commerce member and more.
He was a lead donor for Communities in Bloom, the Trail Arts Society, and the Kootenay Robusters.
