Police are seeking information after a man’s body was found on Highway 1 in Burnaby Tuesday morning (Oct. 6).
Burnaby RCMP received a call at 5:54 a.m. that an adult male’s body was lying in the eastbound lanes of Highway 1, just east of Kensington Avenue, according to a news release from B.C. Highway Patrol.
Police say the man was “obviously deceased,” with injuries consistent with being hit by a vehicle.
B.C. Highway Patrol has taken over the investigation because the victim may have been killed by a vehicle that left the scene.
“We are investigating all possibilities and have not ruled anything out at this point,” said Sgt. Michael McLaughlin with B.C. Highway Patrol.
He added that police need to speak with anyone who saw anything unusual on Highway 1 between 5:30 and 6 a.m. Tuesday morning.
Police are looking for dash-cam footage from anyone who was driving near Kensington Avenue minutes before the body was found, adding that even if the video doesn’t show the collision, “police would like to review it to see if there is important information hidden somewhere in the background.”
Anyone who has video, or who saw anything unusual, is asked to call B.C. Highway Patrol – Burnaby at 604-526-9744 and quote file 1003 2026-3360.
The eastbound lanes of Highway 1 in that area remain completely shut down while police investigate.
Burnaby RCMP say traffic is currently being diverted onto Canada Way at Kensington Avenue.
