Penticton South Okanagan Similkameen Regional RCMP says it has received reports of vandalism involving election campaign signs.

It did not state whether the signs that were reportedly vandalized belonged to municipal candidates or provincial ones.

In a release on Oct. 6, police reminded the public that “stealing, damaging, or defacing campaign signs may constitute criminal offences, including theft and mischief.”

Candidates in the general municipal election began putting up their respective signs on Sept. 11.

There is also a looming provincial election, with candidates finalized and getting their campaigns underway on Oct. 3.

“Penticton South Okanagan Similkameen Regional RCMP encourages everyone to express their views through lawful and respectful participation in the democratic process and to report suspicious activity to police,” the release added.

The municipal and provincial elections are one week apart, taking place on Oct. 17 and 24.
