Oliver hospital’s emergency room to close for 14 hours

The South Okanagan General Hospital’s emergency room will be closed overnight, according to Interior Health (IH).
Emergency services will be unavailable at the Oliver-based hospital from 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 15, to 7 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 16.
All other inpatient services will continue as normal during this time.
Patients can access emergency care at the Penticton Regional Hospital overnight, IH said.
This marks the third service interruption at Oliver’s emergency room since the beginning of August.
IH did not provide a reason for the 14-hour closure. However, the hospital’s emergency room has contended with doctor shortages and regular service interruptions since 2023.
“People in the community who need life-threatening emergency care (i.e., chest pains, difficulty breathing, severe bleeding) should always call 911 for transport to the nearest available and appropriate facility,” IH said.
