More waiting in Okanagan city councillor’s trial for sexual offences

Outgoing Penticton Coun. James Miller will have to wait longer for a decision in the first of two trials for sexual offences.
Miller appeared via video in Sarnia Court on Sept. 14 to hear from Justice Howie, who stated that he was not yet prepared to render a verdict and put the case over for a decision at a later, unspecified date.

Miller is charged with multiple counts of sexual interference of a minor dating back to the 90s, while he was a coach of the Sarnia Mini-Colts basketball team in the Ontario community, with three complainants split between two trials.
Miller has pleaded not guilty to all of the charges against him.
The first trial involved a single complainant, who, when he took the stand, spoke to three alleged incidents where Miller took advantage of him.
A second trial, before a different Justice, is scheduled for a decision on Sept. 18.
That trial involves two other complainants, with a separate set of charges.
Miller, who was placed on leave from city council after being arrested in August of 2024, has remained on paid leave. He has not filed to run for re-election.
