B.C. player makes first CFL start

Third game, first start.
Vernon’s Brady Szeman of the Hamilton Tiger Cats will make his first-ever Canadian Football League (CFL) start Friday, Sept. 18, when the Ti-Cats host the Montreal Alouettes (4:30 p.m., TSN 1/3) in the league’s annual Hall of Fame game.
It’s one of multiple moves made by Hamilton prior to the contest.
Offensive lineman Liam Dobson shifts from centre to guard, paving the way for Szeman to start under quarterback Harrison Frost. The move came after Jonathan Denis, who started last week’s game at right guard, was moved to the one-game injured list with a knee injury.
Frost gets the call at QB, replacing injured starter Tre Ford.
This will be Szeman’s first career regular-season CFL start. He’s been a back-up lineman for a pair of contests.
The 6-foot-1, 302-pound Szeman was selected in the fourth round of the 2026 CFL draft by Hamilton. He made 32 collegiate starts at centre for the University of Calgary Dinos.
The Tiger Cats are 4-9 in the CFL’s East Division, and trail the Winnipeg Blue Bombers (7-6), B.C. Lions (7-6), and Calgary Stampeders (5-8) in the battle for the third and final East Division playoff spot (the fourth-place team in the West Division can cross over to the East Division for the playoffs if they have a better record than the third-place East Division team).
The Alouettes (10-3) are tied for the best record in the CFL with the Edmonton Elks.
The 2026 CFL Hall of Fame class will be honoured during the game Friday. The class includes former players Brandon Banks, Jim Evenson (posthumously), Charleston Hughes, Sean Millington, and Calvin Tiggle, along with former Edmonton head coach Frank (Pop) Ivy (also posthumously) as a builder.
