Beaver Valley Nitehawks come back to beat Border Bruins

The Beaver Valley Nitehawks stormed back from a 2-0 deficit to defeat the Grand Forks Border Bruins on Tuesday (Sept. 22) night at Jack Goddard Memorial Arena.
After an intense two periods, Nitehawks forward Jackson Rendall netted the game winner with a power play goal at 9:01 of the third period. Rendall fired in a set up from Crimson Chittick and Brock Robertson to give B.V. a 3-2 lead and complete the comeback.
With the win, the Nitehawks improved their record to 2-0, while the Border Bruins fall to 0-3 after two losses to Kimberley and Fernie on the weekend.
Grand Forks fired 15 shots at B.V. goalie Kayd Mercier in the first period, with back-to-back goals from Hayden Evans to give the home team a 2-0 lead.
But the Nitehawks replied when Fruitvale product Blaine Nelson beat Border Bruins goalie Cole Fox with 20 seconds left in the opening frame to cut the lead to one.
The Nitehawks dominated the second period outshooting the Border Bruins 16-4, and tied the game on a goal by David Ross midway through the period.
After Rendall’s game winner, Hawks’ defenceman Niklaas Braaksma notched his first goal of the season wiring a shot past Fox for a 4-2 lead with 8:04 to play.
Edmonton product, Felix Hawryluk beat Fox with 2:33 remaining in regulation for the 5-2 final.
The Nitehawks outshot the Border Bruins 34-24, and went 1-for-3 on the power play and 2-for-2 on the penalty kill.
Beaver Valley heads to Kamloops to play the Storm on Friday, Sept. 25 at 7 p.m. and face off against the Merritt Centennials on Saturday, Sept. 26.
Grand Forks travels to Osoyoos for a match against the Coyotes on Saturday, Sept. 26 with the puck drop at 7 p.m.
