Vancouver Football Club (VFC) holds on to fourth place in the league, and remains in contention for its first playoff spot ever heading into tonight’s game.
Following a tie game (1-1) in Victoria this past weekend, the Langley-based pro soccer team will continue its battle to play on in the post-season, while Pacific Football Club
(PFC) has been eliminated.
Saturday’s match, dubbed the Salish Sea Derby as it pitted the two B.C. teams against each other, was the fourth meeting of the two clubs this season.
VFC started off strong in the first 10 minutes with Luis Toomey securing the first goal, bringing the score to 1-0.
A header by PFC’s Yann Toualy PFC tied up the game just before halftime.
Both teams worked hard to secure victory but unfortunately, after more than 93 minutes of play, ended the game with a draw of 1-1.
PFC midfielder Marcus Bustos was named player of the match for his persistence in assisting the goalie to prevent goals from VFC.
In the meantime, on Monday, VFC announced the signing of Langley local Carson Rassak, 17, as a midfielder for the Eagles, with an “Exceptional Young Talent Standard Player Contract” guaranteed through December 2029.
Rassak was previously with the Whitecaps reserve team.
VFC said the signing of this new agreement, the first professional contract of Rassak’s soccer career, further strengthens the club’s commitment to providing opportunities for young Canadian players and developing talent from within the local community.
The Eagles are back home tonight (Wednesday, Sept. 23), playing back-to-back games at the Stadium at Langley Events Centre. The first match is against the visiting Inter Toronto Football Club – VFC fell 3-1 to ITFC back on Sept. 13 in Toronto. The game starts at 7 p.m.
That’s followed on Saturday, Sept. 26, by another matchup against Forge FC, who they defeated Aug. 7 (1-0) in Hamilton.
