Motionball Kelowna raises $136K for Special Olympics Canada Foundation

The 14th annual Motionball Marathon of Sport has come and gone in Kelowna, but not without raising money for the Special Olympics Canada Foundation.
The one-day event took place on Saturday, Sept. 19, raising $136,000, which will go towards a variety of different departments, including Special Olympics BC, the national fund, and the No Good Way campaign.
A surprise donation of $12,000 from the East Meets West Children’s Foundation helped reach that milestone,
This year, 28 teams made up of more than 60 Special Olympics athletes and hundreds more community members, competed in seven different sports, including football, bocci ball, scoop ball and more.
Mayor Tom Dyas made an appearance at the City Park event, joining athletes on the field of play. Longtime Special Olympics athlete Roy Stephens also made an appearance, being recognized as Motionball Kelowna’s Athlete of the Year.
To date, more than $1.8 million has been raised through Motionball in Kelowna.
