Penticton named host city for 2027 World Curling Mixed Championship

Eeva Röthlisberger is confident Penticton can deliver on the world stage.
The head of competitions for World Curling announced on Sept. 25 that the B.C. city has been named host of the 2027 Mixed Curling Championship, set for April 3 to 10.
Last held in 2024, the open-entry event for World Curling members will feature four-player teams consisting of two female and two male players.
Sweden is the defending champion.
Röthlisberger said World Curling was “delighted” to settle on the Penticton Curling Club as its next host for the end-of-season mixed tournament.
“The club has a strong curling community and experience in hosting events and we’re confident that the local organizing team will deliver a fantastic championship for our athletes,” the Swiss executive added.
Penticton Curling Club manager Kent Bird said the event represents an opportunity for the city to showcase itself to the world.
“We’re thrilled to be a part of it,” Bird said.
“Our club and its members are looking forward to welcoming teams from around the world and working together to host an amazing event.”
Next spring’s event won’t mark the first time this season Penticton welcomes some of the world’s top curlers.
The local club is set to host the 2026 Nufloors Penticton Curling Classic, which will feature a prize purse of $100,000 and 10 of the 25 top-ranked men’s teams in the world. Action runs through Thanksgiving weekend, from Oct. 8 to 11.
Among those coming to the Okanagan for the event is world No. 1 Yannick Schwaller of Switzerland, a bronze medalist at the 2026 Olympics.
“The strength of the field is second only to our national championship (the Brier), and might even be stronger than our national championship, to be honest,” Bird told Black Press earlier this month.
The Penticton Curling, a six-sheet facility, has been at its current location (505 Vees Dr.) since 1988. It has close to 600 members.
Bird is in the midst of his first season with the local club after being named to the managerial role in August. He previously spent time at the Abbotsford Curling Club.
