A Town of Penhold councillor was recently recognized with an Alberta Municipalities Award of Excellence.
The award was presented to Coun. Tyrone Muller at Alberta Municipalities’ 2026 Convention and Trade Show at the Fairmont Hotel Edmonton on Sept. 22. The Award of Excellence recognizes outstanding civic leadership by current or former municipal elected officials who have served at least four years in elected office.
Muller has served the Penhold community for more than 10 years, including as a councillor and chairperson of the Municipal Planning Commission.
“Throughout his time on Council, he has contributed to responsible growth, long-term planning, housing, local business opportunities and regional collaboration,” states a Facebook post on the Town of Penhold’s Facebook page.
“His involvement extends well beyond Council Chambers. Councillor Muller has represented Penhold through regional boards and provincial discussions, shared our community’s innovative net-zero infrastructure work at the Alberta Municipalities Convention, and volunteered his time with Citizens on Patrol, the Bark Park Project and numerous community events. His approachable nature, willingness to listen and commitment to his community have made a lasting contribution to Penhold.”
Alberta Municipalities also presented the following awards:
— Dedicated Senior Team Award: Senior Leadership Team, City of Spruce Grove.
— Dedicated CAO Award: Kevin Nagoya, City of Cold Lake CAO.
— Distinguished Service Award – Doug Jones, Town of Oyen, and Ryan Parker, City of Lethbridge.
— Award of Excellence – Murtaza Jamaly, Town of Westlock, and Tyrone Muller, Town of Penhold.
— Life Membership Award – Cathy Heron.
“Communities can only succeed when they are supported by dedicated professionals who are committed to the residents they serve,” said Dylan Bressey, president of ABmunis.
“By recognizing these individuals and teams, we express our gratitude and appreciation for what they do every day to help Alberta communities thrive.”
