Kimberley Dynamiter alumnus Braiden Koran is embarking on an exciting new chapter in his career to play professional ice hockey with The Pensacola Ice Flyers.

Koran has been signed to The Ice Flyers, based out of Pensacola, Florida, for the 2026-27 season.

“I knew this would be a team I would have a lot of interest in going to … It was almost an automatic yes,” said Koran.

Koran, raised in Kimberley, joined the Dynamiters as a teenager, where he gained a reputation as the hardest hitter in the league. In his second season with the team, from 2018 to 2019, the Dynamiters won 42 of their 48 games played.

He played three years with the Humboldt Broncos, before he was signed to the Ontario Tech University Ridgebacks in 2022. Over his collegiate career as a forward, he appeared in 99 games and recorded 14 goals and 19 assists for 33 points, and also served as Assistant Captain. Fourteen of these points were collected last season across 30 games, with seven goals and seven assists. Koran said the Ridgebacks were ranked number six in Canada in December 2025.

Koran will play his home opener game with the Ice Flyers in mid October against the Birmingham Bulls. Joining the Southern Professional Hockey League will mean more challenging competitive play and longer faster games, but he said he’s looking forward to developing his offensive skills.

The Ice Flyers took note of Koran’s skilled left-hand shooting and excellence in high-pressure games, which earned him a spot on the team.

“Braiden is an exciting young player who is bringing a heaviness to his game,” said Ice Flyers Head Coach Jeremy Gates.

“He developed in college starting as a role player to being more relied on in his later seasons. We really like his compete level, his attitude, and his willingness to learn. We believe Pensacola will be a great place for him to start his professional career, and we’re excited to help develop his game,” Gates added.

Koran said he looks forward to playing for a team with a great record in the league, friendly and welcoming staff, and a large fan-base. Playing professionally in North America will open the door to opportunities in Europe as well.

Koran’s long-term childhood dream to pursue professional hockey is finally becoming a reality.

“I’ve come along way and I’ve got a lot of people to thank for that,” he said.
