I am seeking re-election for a third term as a Trustee for Campbell River School District 72.

Public education matters deeply to me. I believe it is one of the most important systems we can support as a society, providing the foundation from which our children grow into the engaged citizens our province and country need.

As a trustee, I believe we have a responsibility to ensure every student has the opportunity to learn in a safe, inclusive and effective environment. My role is to listen, ask questions, advocate for students and staff, and make decisions with the long term health and sustainability of public education in mind.

My decision to first step forward as a candidate in 2018 grew directly from my work leading the Campbell River Literacy Association. Throughout my career, I have had the privilege of creating learning opportunities for adults, children, youth and families and witnessing the difference education can make in people’s lives. These experiences shaped my commitment to public education and to ensuring students have opportunities to develop their skills, discover their strengths and reach their potential.

I am committed to honouring the cultures, languages, histories and relationships connected to these lands. Our schools have an important role in creating space for students to learn about and respect the histories and lived experiences that shape our communities. I will continue to support this work with care, respect and a pledge to listen and learn.

Over two terms as a trustee, I have seen the growing pressures facing our schools and those who work in them. Classrooms are increasingly complex, and teachers are navigating a wide range of academic, social and individual needs. We need to do more to support classroom teachers and education staff.

Advocating for additional provincial funding is essential to the long-term sustainability and integrity of our classrooms. Funding must reflect the actual costs of education, including inflation and rising operating costs. Sustainable investment is necessary to maintain the programs, services and supports our students need.

As a rural trustee, I believe it is my responsibility to ensure the unique perspectives and realities of rural public education are elevated to provincial decision making and funding tables. This includes advocating for aging infrastructure and ensuring our schools are safe, functional and able to meet the needs of students in 2026.

I am grateful for the opportunity to have served School District 72 and am asking for the opportunity to continue this work. There is important advocacy ahead, for our students, teachers, rural schools and the resources needed to sustain quality public education.
