Major crime investigation into disappearance of Trail man remains active

The investigation into the disappearance of Trail man Mark Konrad remains active more than a year after his last confirmed contact with police, but BC RCMP are releasing no further details about the case.
In early September, RCMP provided an update in response to questions from the Trail Times.
“The investigation is active and ongoing; however, beyond confirming that fact, we are unable to share any further details at this time,” BC RCMP told the Times on Sept. 3, 2026.
The Southeast District Major Crime Unit is leading the investigation into the disappearance of the 51-year-old, whose last confirmed interaction was with RCMP officers in late June 2025.
In late May this year, the major crime unit issued an urgent appeal for the public’s help in determining the circumstances surrounding Konrad’s disappearance.
The investigation led to a significant police operation along Highway 3B near Warfield earlier this summer.
On June 1, major crime investigators executed a search warrant at 1381/1383 Highway 3B as part of the investigation into Konrad’s disappearance.
Highway 3B was temporarily closed in both directions between Warfield and Rossland while the warrant was executed, with traffic rerouted through Castlegar.
The highway reopened later that day.
At the time, RCMP said the closure was necessary to ensure the safety of the public and police officers.
Major crime investigators were also making inquiries in Kelowna, Castlegar, Grand Forks, Warfield and Trail in connection with the case.
RCMP have not disclosed what investigators were searching for at the Highway 3B property or what circumstances led police to characterize Konrad’s disappearance as suspicious.
Police have also not released further details about where Konrad was living in Trail, where his last confirmed interaction with RCMP occurred or whether he had a vehicle.
Konrad is described as a Caucasian male standing five-foot-nine (175 centimetres) and weighing approximately 220 pounds (100 kilograms).
He has brown hair that is balding and brown eyes.
