Multiple people taken into custody in Trail, Castlegar drug trafficking investigation

Multiple people were taken into custody Tuesday as Trail and Castlegar RCMP executed search warrants at two rural properties as part of a joint drug trafficking investigation.
On Sept. 15, Trail and Castlegar RCMP, with assistance from the RCMP Southeast District Emergency Response Team, searched two residences under warrant near both cities.
One warrant was executed at a residence in the 8600 block of Waneta Highway near Trail, while the second was carried out at a residence in the 1000 block of Mountain Street in Robson, near Castlegar.
Multiple occupants were taken into custody at the Waneta property, while one man was taken into custody at the Robson property, police said.
Police say all were taken into custody without incident.
As a precaution during the police operation in Robson, Robson Community School was briefly placed under a hold and secure.
RCMP said there was no direct threat to students or staff and the measure was taken to ensure their safety while officers carried out enforcement activities in the neighbourhood.
Police have not released the number of people taken into custody at the Waneta property or any information about potential charges.
The joint drug trafficking investigation remains ongoing and RCMP said no further details are being released.
