Two Creston locals, brothers Travis and Wesley Steed, are heading to Guthrie, Oklahoma next month for the Mounted Shooting World Championship, November 3 to 7, 2026.
Both men have had a stellar year in competition around Alberta and B.C., with Wesley winning overall reserve for the 2026 season, placing first (Wesley) and second (Travis) in the 2026 Canadian Finals in Stavely, Alberta. Travis won the Canadian Finals in 2022.
They have qualified for the World Championship and are looking forward to competing against each other for the World’s Buckle.
It’s an expensive venture to get both men and their horses to Guthrie, as well as paying entry fees and accommodations. They are looking for sponsors, and local contractor George Longpre of Mad Dog Electrical and Construction has kicked it off by pledging $1600. He challenges all other Creston contractors and businesses to support the Steeds as well.
The competition will be televised and sponsors’ logos can be worn on riding gear and trailer banners.
Sponsorship packages include Diamond for $2500, with the largest shirt logo and a logo on the trailer banner; Platinum, $1,000, also with a shirt and banner logo; Gold, $500, smaller logo on shirt, large on banner; Silver, $250, medium logo on banner; and Bronze, $50, small logo on banner. All sponsors will also receive a social media shout out from the local shooting club as well.
