‘One last ride’ planned for Bashaw firefighter, son’s funeral procession

An honorary motorcycle motorcade has been organized to escort the funeral procession for Dayce and Xander Newman, from Camrose to Bashaw on Sept. 25, for ‘one final ride.’
The father, Dayce, 35, and son, Xander, 13, lost their lives in a collision on Sept. 15.
The RCMP stated the motorcycle collided with a pick up truck at Highway 21 and Township Road 481, near Armena, around 4:30 p.m.
The Newmans were declared deceased at the scene. The two occupants of the truck were uninjured.
Dayce was a firefighter with the Bashaw Fire Department and the Red Knights Motorcycle Club.
According to One Last Ride Ltd., the pair had been riding together on Dayce’s motorcycle on their way to Bike Night in Leduc.
“One Last Ride Ltd. has been invited by the Newman family to have the incredible honour of accompanying Dayce Newman and his son, Xander, on their final journey together,” stated One Last Ride Motorcycle Hearse’s social media post.
“Xander loved motorcycles, but even more importantly, he loved riding with his dad. Those rides were time together. A shared passion between a father and his son, creating memories every time they headed down the road.”
The procession will gather in the Rudy Swanson Recreation Park parking lot in Camrose, starting at 8:30 a.m., and will leave at 10 a.m. for the Bashaw Community Centre at 5020 52 St.
The celebration of life is to take place at the community centre at 11 a.m.
All who wish to join the procession are invited to take part.
“Motorcyclists, first responders, friends, neighbours, community members, and those who simply want to offer their support are welcome.
“On Sept. 25, let’s fill that road with the sound Xander loved and honour the bond he shared with his dad.”
