The Ohana Bowl-a-Thon, an annual fundraiser for Rivercity Inclusion Society, is the most recent recipient of a donation from Eagles Ladies Auxiliary #3097.
The Society is celebrating 65 years of supporting people with developmental disabilities. This year’s bowl-a-thon is Oct. 17 at CR Bowling.
Rivercity Inclusion was incorporated on Oct. 10, 1961, when local parents organized so their children with developmental disabilities could attend school and grow up in their own community rather than in institutions.
The organization now supports people of all ages, as well as their families and caregivers. Its services include child and youth programs such as the Infant Development Program and Speech and Language Program, and community inclusion programs such as HYPE, Passages and VIBE. It also provides employment support through L.I.F.E. Services and operates group homes and residential programs.
Money raised at the bowl-a-thon supports those programs.
Teams of up to six bowlers can register for $200. Prizes will go to the best-dressed team in each session, along with an individual “mystery score” prize. The afternoon also includes a DJ, a silent auction and a 50/50 raffle. Organizers are still seeking silent auction donations.
Teams, sponsors and donors can contact the society at fundraising@rivercityinclusion.ca or 236-507-9388.
