The Government of Canada has designated October 1 to acknowledge the contributions older adults have made, and continue to make, to our families, communities and society.

Senior Support North Vancouver Island (SSNVI) encourages everyone to take a moment to celebrate, honour and support the seniors in our lives and in our community. SSNVI and their dedicated team of volunteers – many of them seniors themselves – have been supporting seniors in Campbell River through the Better at Home Program since 2024 and in the Comox Valley since 1997.

Their programs help seniors stay independent at home and socially connected through friendly visits, transportation assistance, grocery shop assistance, light housekeeping, assistance with forms and referrals to government programs, support groups and more.

“It’s easy to forget that today’s seniors were innovators, leaders and care-givers in their younger days. They had full, interesting lives, and many still do. When we take the time to truly see and hear them, it can be incredibly rewarding and enriching,” says Dayna Forsgren, SSNVI Executive Director. “Getting to know our seniors, who they are and the experiences they have lived, often leads to rewarding long term friendships.”

It’s easy to celebrate, honour and support seniors.
