A home southeast of Williams Lake near 150 Mile House was destroyed after a fire broke out Tuesday, Sept. 29.

Regional Fire Chief Roger Hollander with the Cariboo Regional District (CRD) confirmed the 150 Mile Volunteer Fire Department responded to flames coming from a residence on Horsefly Road at approximately 8:45 a.m.

Miocene Volunteer Fire Department and the Williams Lake Fire Department also assisted with the incident.

“We’re extremely happy that the occupant did get out without injury,” Hollander said. However, a dog is believed to have unfortunately perished in the fire.

Traffic on Horsefly Rd. near Dugan Lake was impacted at the time of the fire with Dawson Road Maintenance sharing on Facebook at 2:05 p.m. that it had since fully reopened.

“One of the challenges always is the amount of personnel and firefighters available,” Hollander said, adding he is proud of the response and encourages others interested in helping their fire departments to reach out.

“We appreciate the Miocene and Williams Lake fire departments for responding to assist with this structure fire.”

On social media, friends and neighbours identified the homeowner as Lana Wilson with Rustic Country Candles, who recently opened a brick-and-mortar store at the Prosperity Ridge Shopping Centre in Williams Lake.

Hollander said they are working with the family and occupants who were not home at the time of the fire to assist them with Emergency Social Services.

A GoFundMe launched by Wilson’s neighbour, Kayla Bush, is available at https://gofund.me/b1d45fae9
