Former Penticton Vees forward Jacob Quillan was involved in an NHL trade on Wednesday as he was shipped from Toronto to Vancouver.

The Maple Leafs shipped Quillan, who played with the BCHL Vees in the COVID-shortened 2020-21 season, to the Canucks in exchange for forward Aatu Raty.

In the deal, Toronto also sent forward and North Vancouver native Brandon Buhr to the Canucks.

Quillan suited up in 23 games with the Leafs last season, before helping the American Hockey League’s Toronto Marlies win the Calder Cup.

His time in Penticton lasted just 20 games. The Nova Scotia product posted 13 goals and 27 points in that time.

Before going undrafted and eventually signing a contract with the Leafs, Quillan suited up at Quinnipiac University in Connecticut.

The now 24-year-old joins the rebuilding Vancouver organization, where he could spend time with the AHL’s Abbotsford Canucks.

“By acquiring Jacob and Brandon, this move gives our group two new young players to work with as we continue to look for ways to improve our overall depth,” Vancouver general manager Ryan Johnson said.
