Around 50 witchy individuals traded their broomsticks for paddleboards Sunday morning (Oct. 4) as they took to the water for White Rock’s annual Witch Rock paddle.
The group launched from the boat ramp at Bayview Park around 11 a.m., making their way toward the White Rock Pier before paddling back.
The fog was thick over the water, giving the paddle a particularly spooky backdrop as witches in pointed hats, black clothing and capes moved through the mist.
Participants ranged from children to seniors, with some bringing their dogs along for the paddle. Some wore marks, face paint and elaborate witch costumes.
According to a social media post made in a White Rock and South Surrey community group, this annual event is a chance for local paddleboarders to celebrate the Halloween season together.
Donations to the food bank were also encouraged as part of this year’s event.
Along the waterfront, a handful of spectators stopped to watch and take photos as the group paddled past.
There was plenty of laughter – and more than a few witch cackles – coming from the water as the paddlers made their way toward the pier.
