The Regional District of Okanagan Similkameen has issued a warning after multiple reports of an individual impersonating an employee in areas impacted by the Bald Range Wildfire.
The Regional District said the individual was going door-to-door in wildfire-affected areas while claiming to be an RDOS employee.
It is not clear what specific information the individual is seeking, but the RDOS has warned residents to avoid sharing personal information unless their identity is verified.
“If you encounter this individual, or if someone approaches your property claiming to be from the RDOS and you are concerned about their identity, please report the incident to the RCMP immediately,” the RDOS release states. “The RDOS takes these reports seriously and is working with partners to help ensure the safety and security of residents affected by the wildfire.”
The Penticton Western News has also contacted the RCMP for comment.
The RDOS directed people with questions to contact the Emergency Operations Centre information line at 250-490-4225
