Salmon Arm RCMP are pursuing charges after finding illicit drugs, cash and scales in an SUV during a traffic stop on Highway 1.
The traffic stop occurred at 12:30 a.m. on Aug. 28, and involved a black Lexus Infiniti SUV that police had previously observed at known problem residences. Police sought to check for a valid driver’s license and driver sobriety.
Finding illicit tobacco in the vehicle, police arrested the female driver and male passenger under the Excise Act.
“A search of the vehicle discovered two scales, assorted illicit drugs totalling 90 grams, $2,175 cash, and a scoresheet,” said Salmon Arm RCMP media relations officer Const. Andrew Hodges in a news release. “The man was advised he was also under arrest for possession for the purpose of trafficking, possession of proceeds of crime, and possession of unstamped tobacco.”
The man was later release and the file remains under investigation, with a charge recommendation soon to be submitted to BC Prosecution for approval.
