Vancouver Giants may have won four in a row, their longest winning streak of the season so far, and their latest win may have been a lopsided 5-1 victory over the Penticton Vees, and the team may be leading the WHL Western Conference B.C. Division – but Giants Assistant Coach Simon Ferguson still sees room for improvement.

“I think the first 40 minutes were really good,” Ferguson said following Saturday’s game at the South Okanagan Events Centre.

“The last 20 were probably not as good as we would have liked, but we found a way to get it done.”

When the team keeps it simple “and plays the way we want to play together – as 20 – that allows the skill to come out and allows you to make plays when the time is right,” Ferguson added.

“You’re not trying to force plays when it’s not there. I think that’s going to be the recipe for our team, is playing simple and hard. We did that for a good, significant portion of the game tonight, which is why we got the result.”

Cash Koch scored two goals in his Giants debut. Brogan McNeil, Cam Parr and Tobias Tomik each scored for Vancouver. Tomik had a three-point evening with a goal and two assists, while McNeil tucked the game-winner late in the first period and added an assist.

Burke Hood stopped 40 of 41 shots.

Giants will continue their road trip early next week in Prince George, with back-to-back games against the Cougars on Tuesday and Wednesday.

The Giants play next at home on Friday, Oct. 30 at 7 p.m. against Victoria in their annual Trick or Suite night.

Fans of all ages are invited to wear their Halloween costumes to the game, and kids can go trick-or-treating suite-to-suite on the suite level (fourth floor) during the game’s intermissions.
