Toe jumps. Edge jumps.
Solo efforts. Team work makes the dream work.
Fantastic outfits.
And an abundance of smiles.
Close to 300 skaters from a dozen countries lutzed and salchowed their way to Vernon for Skate Canada’s International Adult Figure Skating Competition.
The four-day event began Wednesday, Sept. 16, and wraps up Saturday, Sept. 19, at Kal Tire Place.
“We worked on a bid together with the City of Vernon and we were selected to host this event,” said Danielle Williams, Skate Canada BC-Yukon executive director.
Competitors aged 27 to 84 from Canada, the United States, Mexico, Europe, Japan, Australia and New Zealand have been skating their collective hearts out in the North Okanagan.
“So far, so great,” smiled Williams on Thursday, Sept. 17. “Everyone’s super happy. The feedback has been great on the venue and the city, and everyone’s just loving the hospitality of Vernon.”
The event is open to the public free of charge.
Competition Friday, Sept. 18, goes from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m., and wraps up Saturday, with skaters on the ice from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.
