The Beaver Valley Nitehawks have been on the road every week since the season opened, playing its ninth game in the last 10 away from the Nest.
Unfortunately, the road weary Hawks came up short in losses to the Dynamiters in Kimberley and the Ghostriders in Fernie on the weekend.
Ghostriders forward Boston Logan scored the game winner on a power play at 11:50 of the third period to give Fernie the 3-2 win on Saturday (Oct. 17) in Fernie.
With the loss, the Nitehawks fall to 5-4-1-1, good for third place in the Kootenay Division, while Kimberley improves to 9-1-1-0, tops in the division and the BCHC league.
Fernie meanwhile holds down second spot with a 7-3-0-0 record, Nelson is in fourth at 4-5-0-1, Grand Forks is 2-8-0-0, and Columbia Valley 2-9-0-0.
The Nitehawk jumped out to a 2-0 lead on goals from David Ross and Ben Fragle, despite an 11-3 advantage by Fernie in shots on goal.
The Hawks then peppered the Ghostriders goalie outshooting Fernie 19-9 in the middle frame, but markers from Fernie’s Stephen Jones and Mattias Schoffner tied it at 2-2 after 40.
The tight match ended in a flurry, but B.V. could not find the equalizer. The Hawks outshoot Fernie 32-30, and went 0-for-5 on the power play, while Fernie was 1-for-8.
The Nitehawks played their last home game on Saturday, Oct. 3 against Grand Forks, and their only other home match was their first game of the season, a 4-2 win over Fernie on Sept. 19.
In Saturday’s game, Beaver Valley was also missing key forwards Brady Walker, Connor Drake, Julian Knelson, and Jackson Rendall, in addition to defenceman Vance Amyotte.
On Friday, Kimberley jumped out to a 4-0 lead on goals from Brayden Schwartz, Reed Reschny, Noah Kelly, and Aiden Conroy midway through the second period.
B.V. rebounded with goals from Jonas Bourchier and Rendall to cut the lead to 4-2 before the period was out.
However, the Dynamiters owned the third and shut down the Nitehawks offence by outshooting B.V. 11-3, and scoring into an empty net for the 5-2 final.
Beaver Valley will enjoy their third home game of the season against Williams Lake Mustangs on Friday, Oct. 23, before traveling to Osoyoos to play the Coyotes on Saturday, Oct. 24.
The puck drop for the Hawks-Mustangs match up goes at 7 p.m.
