LNG Canada says it’s moving onto the new step after it received the final investment decision on its Phase 2 expansion project.
LNG Canada made the announcement in a news release Monday (Sept. 28) ahead of a scheduled press conference in Vancouver with Prime Minister Mark Carney on Tuesday morning.
Chris Cooper LNG Canada president, said with the final investment decision secured, Phase 2 will double LNG Canada’s capacity from 14 million tonnes a year to 28 million tonnes.
He added that Phase 2 is about “much more than tonnes,” noting it will create thousands of jobs and “further strengthen Canada’s role as a trusted energy partner, bringing more responsibly produced Canadian LNG to global markets while supporting long-term prosperity at home.”
Phase 2 is expected to add two additional LNG processing units, known as trains, within LNG Canada’s existing Kitimat facility. That is expected to increase the capacity to 28 million tonnes a year.
It also includes an additional LNG storage tank, condensate tank, loading berth, expanded utility and process systems.
More to come.
