A milestone edition of the high-energy Penticton Beer Run welcomed hundreds of participants on Saturday morning, Oct. 3.

Dozens of teams got up early and threw on their most creative costumes to enjoy the 7.5-kilometre, 15-stop course.

More than 400 people were in the race, said event organizer Lyndie Hill of Hoodoo Adventures.

“The goal is to enjoy Penticton, not to cross the finish line,” Hill told a group of teams at the start line inside Okanagan Lake Park.

The race covered 10 local breweries, three cideries and four eateries across downtown Penticton.

A post-race party featuring live music, backyard games and food trucks awaited the participants at Okanagan Lake Park.

This marked the 10th annual edition of the event, which supports getting local youth more active.

Hill said partial proceeds raised from registration fees will go toward youth outdoor recreation programs.

The beer run is one of many events on a busy Saturday in Penticton.

Along with the weekly farmers’ market, large crowds are set to drive up Carmi Avenue to catch the Harvest Championship at the Penticton Speedway. Action starts at 5:30 p.m.

The Penticton Vees are also in town, playing host to the Tri-City Americans at the South Okanagan Events Centre at 6 p.m.
