Poul Andersen has found some early success in his first full season as a Red Deer Rebel.

The St. Louis Park, Minnesota native has record seven points (one goal and six assists) through the first five games of the 2026-27 Western Hockey League season. The 19-year-old six-foot-one, 200-pound forward has been playing primarily with Cameron Kuzma and Cole Temple to start the year.

“I feel pretty good (on the ice). I’ve been producing pretty well with the help of my linemates and my teammates. It’s been a pretty good start,” said Andersen.

“We’re trying to play fast. Our chemistry keeps building as the games go on. (Kuzma and Temple) are both great players and they know how to the puck in the help, which helps.”

Andersen was traded from the Edmonton Oil Kings to the Red Deer Rebels just after last Christmas. Prior to the trade he had 16 points (11 goals and five assists) in 28 games Edmonton. He then put up 30 points (14 goals and 16 assists) in 36 games with the Rebels. He added two points in three playoff games.

“It’s a little bit easier coming out of camp with the team instead of joining half way through. You already know everyone and you don’t have to meet a bunch of new teammates. That helps with the confidence,” said Andersen.

Andersen, who is committed to play with the University of Maine, said he doesn’t have any personal milestones or goals in mind this season, he just wants to do what he can to help the team win.

“I want to win a championship. I want to do whatever I can to help my team achieve that,” he said.

The Rebels were bested 4-1 by the Prince Albert Raiders on Wednesday, Sept. 30. The team continues a road trip to Saskatoon on Friday, Oct. 2 and Moose Jaw on Saturday, Oct. 3.

Red Deer returns home on Friday, Oct. 9 to host the Calgary Hitmen at the Marchant Crane Centrium, with puck drop set for 7 p.m. The Rebels then host the Edmonton Oil Kings on Monday, Oct. 12 for a Thanksgiving Day matinee at 2 p.m.
